In 1849-50 the sculpture groups "Horse Handling" by P.K.Klodt were set on the Anichkov bridge.

The National museum "The Rostov Kremlin" is situated on the territory of the former residence of Rostov bishops famous all over the world. The museum funds contain about 80,000 historical and cultural objects. The stamp features the church of the Spas-na-Senyakh (1675) and the Kremlin walls and towers.

The church of Intercession of the Virgin on the Nerl river was built in 1165 near Bogolyubovo at the fall of the Nerl river into the Klyazma as a memorial to the successful campaign of Andrey Bogolyubsky against Bulgarians in 1164. At the same time it was a memorial to Andrey's son Izyaslav who died in the campaign.

Moscow State University was founded in 1755. There are more than 200 chairs and 430 research laboratories, 4 research institutes, a computer center, 4 observatories, 3 museums, a botanic garden, a library and a publishing centre. In 1992 the university gained a status of a self-directed state higher education establishment of Russia.
