№ 1347-1351. Cities of military glory

In August 1943 during Belgorodsko-Kharkovskaya operation Soviet Army breached the defensive line of Nazi-german Army and rescued Belgorod and Kharkov cities. 
The Decree № 558 “On conferment to Belgorod city the honourable rank “The city of military glory” was signed by the President of the Russian Federation on April 27, 2007.

During the battle at Kurskaya Duga the Soviet Army blocked the last massive attack of the enemy and finally took the strategic initiative.

During Orlov offensive operation the prepared defense of Nazi-german Army was broken. The Decree № 560 “On conferment to Orel city the honourable rank “The city of military glory” was signed by the President of the Russian Federation on April 27, 2007.

In course of the Great Patriotic War Polyarny city was the main base of the Northern fleet. During the war the fleet conducted operations of submarine and overwater forces. The city had been under bombs for many times and was completely destroyed.
The Decree № 554 “On conferment to Polyarny city the honourable rank “The city of military glory” was signed by the President of the Russian Federation on May 05, 2008.

In 1941-1943 Rzhev surroundings endured the most difficult battle of the whole Patriotic War. The fight between Soviet and German armies lasted for 14 months.
