The “International Polar Year” souvenir set in a frame is from now on available at our Collector showrooms. The souvenir set includes postage stamps of 2007 in a regular se-tenant sheet with illustrated margins and a souvenir plastic se-tenant sheet.
The International Polar Year 2007-2008 initiated by the Russian Federation was a part of a large-scale international research programme carried out by the World Meteorological Organisation. Its major aims are comprehensive research of the Northeast Passage and bringing public attention to research on the polar regions.
The success of the International Polar Year contributed to a fundamental progress in scientific exploration of the polar regions; it gave a significant impulse to the economic development of the Arctic region and expansion of marine and river navigation; and formed scientific basis for sustainable development of friendly social environment for local residents.
