The complex comprises the Preobrazhenskaya Church (1714), Pokrovskaya Church (1764) and a hip-roof bell tower (1874). In 1960 Kizhi became a museum of national wooden architecture and Karelian ethnography.

The monument was inaugurated in 1782 by E.Falcone, M.Kollo and F.Gordeev. The pedestal is a gigantic granite block ("thunder-stone") of 1600 tons, which was found in 1768 at the Finnish bay, not far from the village Konnaya Lakhta.

The palace for A.Morozov (the nephew of S.Morozov) was built in December 1899 after the plan by a famous Russian architect V.Mazyrin. After the revolution the building served as a place for embassies of Japan, England and India for a long time. The House of the Friendship with foreign nations was inaugurated in the palace in March 1959. The House is a full member of the FIME, which was founded in 1962 and is an advisory board of the European Union.
